NRL Team Lists- Round 9

The rep season is here- we’ve got City v Country and Australia v New Zealand. This means half the competition has a bye, and the rest may be fielding depleted sides. Or will they? You better check inside to see what’s happening with the teams for Round 9.

SATURDAY:

Brisbane Broncos v Melbourne Storm at Suncorp Stadium, 7:30pm
Broncos: Corey Norman, Dane Gagai, Jack Reed, Dale Copley, Shea Moylan, Ben Hunt, Peter Wallace, Nick Kenny, Andrew McCullough, Mitchell Dodds, Alex Glenn, Dane Carlaw, Corey Parker (c). Interchange: Kurt Baptise, Scott Anderson, Dunamis Lui, David Hala, Justin Hunt.
Ins: Corey Norman, Dane Gagai, Shea Moylan, Kurt Baptise, Scott Anderson, Dunamis Lui, David Hala, Justin Hunt
Outs: Gerard Beale (New Zealand), Jharal Yow Yeh (Australia), Justin Hodges (Australia), Darren Lockyer (Australia), Ben Hannant (Australia), Sam Thaiday (Australia), Josh McGuire (lacerated eyeball, indefinite)
Storm: Billy Slater, Anthony Quinn, Dane Nielsen, Beau Champion, Matt Duffie, Gareth Widdop, Cooper Cronk, Jesse Bromwich, Cameron Smith, Bryan Norrie, Adam Blair, Kevin Proctor, Todd Lowrie.  Interchange: Ryan Hinchcliffe, Atelea Vea, Adam Woolnough, Jaiman Lowe.
Ins: None
Outs: None

Comment: The Broncos have made an incredible amount of changes. They’ve decided to not play any of their rep stars, meaning Corey Norman, Dane Gagai, Shea Moylan, Kurt Baptise, Scott Anderson, Dunamis Lui, David Hala and Justin Hunt all come into the squad. It will be interesting to see though if any of the Internationals return for this game, depending on how they pull up after the game. One player who wont be back this week is Josh McGuire, who has suffered a nasty injury- a cut to his eyeball. No changes for the Storm, but the rep players may miss out, depending again on how things pan out in their respective games.

Gold Coast Titans v New Zealand Warriors at Skilled Park, 2:00pm

Titans: Preston Campbell, Steve Michaels, Esi Tonga, Bodene Thompson, David Mead, William Zillman, Scott Prince, Luke Bailey, Riley Brown, Matthew White, Greg Bird, Mark Minichiello, Ashley Harrison.  Interchange (from): Michael Henderson, Ryan James, Ben Ridge, Luke O’Dwyer, Kayne Lawton.
Ins: Riley Brown, Kane Lawton
Outs: Nathan Friend (shoulder, indefinite)

Warriors: Lance Hohaia, Kevin Locke, Lewis Brown, Simon Mannering, Krisnan Inu, James Maloney, Brett Seymour, Sam Rapira, Aaron Heremaia, Jacob Lillyman, Feleti Mateo, Elijah Taylor, Michael Luck. Interchange: Alehana Mara, Russell Packer, Ben Matulino, Ukuma Ta’ai.
Ins: None
Outs: None

Comment: Big loss for the Titans, with hooker Nathan Friend sidelined due to his shoulder. He unfortunately wont get to play against his new club, but gives Riley Brown another chance in the No. 9 jersey. No changes for a winning Warriors side, who have a few on rep duty. I wouldn’t expect any changes unless injury strikes.

SUNDAY
St. George Illawarra Dragons v North QLD Cowboys at WIN Jubilee Oval, 3:00pm

Dragons: Kyle Stanley, Brett Morris, Mark Gasnier, Matt Cooper, Jason Nightingale, Jamie Soward, Ben Hornby, Dan Hunt, Dean Young, Michael  Weyman, Beau Scott, Ben Creagh, Matt Prior.  Interchange: Jon Green, Nathan Fien, Adam Cuthbertson, Trent Merrin.
Ins: None
Outs: None

Cowboys: Matthew Bowen, Ashley Graham, Antonio Winterstein, Willie Tonga, Kalifa Faifai Loa, Ray Thompson, Johnathan Thurston, Matthew Scott, Aaron Payne, James Tamou, Gavin Cooper, Glenn Hall, Dallas Johnson. Interchange: Scott Bolton, Leeson Ah Mau, Tariq Sims, Ashton Sims.
Ins: None
Outs: None

Comment: Wow. The Dragons have a staggering 10 players turning out for the rep sides on Friday night- Brett Morris (Australia), Jason Nightingale (New Zealand), Jamie Soward (Country), Dan Hunt (Country), Beau Scott (Australia), Ben Creagh (Australia), Matt Prior (Country), Nathan Fien (New Zealand), Adam Cuthbertson (City) and Trent Merrin (Country). With this many players backing up and Gasnier and Young under injury clouds, I don’t think this will be the 1-17 that runs out on the weekend. This might really test the Dragons’ depth. They take on a much more settled North Queensland side, who are only missing JT and Matt Scott to Australian duties. Chances are both these players will back up.

MONDAY:
Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles v Canberra Raiders at Brookvale Oval, 7:00pm

Sea Eagles: Brett Stewart, Michael Robertson, Jamie Lyon (c), Steve Matai, Will Hopoate, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Jason King (c), Matt Ballin, Brent Kite, Anthony Watmough, Joe Galuvao, Glenn Stewart.  Interchange (from): Vic Mauro, Jamie Buhrer, George Rose, Tony Williams, David Williams, Michael Oldfield, Tim Robinson.
Ins: Brett Stewart, David Williams, Tim Robinson
Outs: None

Raiders:  Josh Dugan, Blake Ferguson, Jarrod Croker, Joel Thompson, Reece Robinson, Josh McCrone, Matt Orford, Dane Tilse, Alan Tongue (C), Brett White, Danny Galea, Bronson Harrison, Shaun Fensom.  Interchange (from):  Glen Buttriss, Josh Miller, Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, Trevor Thurling, Sam Mataora.
Ins: Reece Robinson, Danny Galea, Sam Mataora
Outs: Daniel Vidot (dropped), David Shillington (pectoral, indefinite)

Comment: For Manly, it’s business as usual- Brett Stewart, David Williams and Tim Robinson have all been named- when will they get a run! I don’t expect all 3 to play this week, but as to who… your guess is as good as mine. A couple of changes for the Raiders, with Danny Galea, Alan Tongue, Reece Robinson and Brett White into the starting side. Vidot has been dropped, and Shillington is out with a pec injury. Sam Mataora is on the extended bench, and is likely to miss the game unless one of the forwards misses out through injury.

Bye:
Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs
Penrith Panthers
Sydney Roosters
Parramatta Eels
South Sydney Rabbitohs
Cronulla Sharks
Wests Tigers
Newcastle Knights
