Goodbye to a hero

Benji

This evening the player that has arguably defined the new NRL era will play his final game, amazingly in today’s climate for the club that he began with just over 10 years ago. I will start by declaring that I am a Benji admirer – that might sounds like most rugby league fans, but the reality is I’m one of the minority.

The Monday Wrap – 5/3/12

Yes that’s right, the Monday Wrap is back…for this week at least. The greatest game of all is back for 2012 as well, while the cricket and football have also thrown up some interesting points this week. Check out my assessment of the weekend’s action across four codes. Read more…

Calamity in Cape Town

November 14, 2011 Leave a comment

My oh my. Australians all over the country are still sitting there, wondering what in the world happened in the First Test against South Africa. Even more so, they are wondering who is to blame in all this. Is it the selectors for not stopping the rot earlier and cleaning out the whole line-up rather than simply the only batsman scoring runs? Is it the players themselves for simply throwing in the towel and not even attempting to counter the swinging ball? Or was it simply that the South African bowling attack had their big moment, and were too good for the Australians? Read more…

The Summer of Cricket – Part Two South Africa

November 7, 2011 1 comment

As the home summer season edges closer, we have a bumped Test series between South Africa and Australia, unfortunately limited to just two Tests due to scheduling, but enthralling all the same. After Australia rose one spot in the Test rankings with a series victory over Sri Lanka, they face an even tougher challenge against the best pace attack in the world. How will they go? Will Phil Hughes again dominate the South Africans? Will Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn rip through the Australian top order like they have done with so many other nations? Will Patrick Cummins become the yougest Australian Test debutant since Craig McDermott? Read more…

Again another massive weekend of sport, and another weekend of disappointing results for Australia (unfortunately). In this week’s Monday Wrap – The Wallabies are out of the World Cup, the Kangaroos dominated the Kiwis in the rugby league, Australia’s tour of South Africa got underway, and much more. Read more…

The Monday Wrap – 10/10/11

October 10, 2011 Leave a comment

The Monday Wrap returns following a massive weekend of sport, and one enthused (by sport), yet heavily bored (by other things) author. Trying not to miss anything I’ll take a look at the return of the A-League, the Champions League Twenty20 finals, the Rugby World Cup quarter finals (although I’ll leave the main analysis to our man on the ground and the best in the business Shippy) as well as  the battle for Brookvale version two. All that and more in The Monday Wrap! Read more…

The Summer of Cricket – Part One Sri Lanka

August 30, 2011 1 comment

So we have the first cricket of the season (I know it’s not summer, but we’ll start here anyway) following the Argus Review, which has shaken up the whole sport, and hopefully made some immediate changes for the better. I’ve decided to do previews of the season, starting with the Sri Lanka tour, then the South African tour, the home tests, and finally the Big Bash. We start in Sri Lanka, and the First Test already has some interesting points coming from it. Read more…

Thurston charge illustrates flaws of current system

Monday brought us some major issues in rugby league, but the biggest talking point was most certainly the contrary conduct charge slapped on Cowboys, Queensland and Australian halfback Johnathan Thurston. To put it simply, the fact that Thurston could miss any football, let alone an Origin decider, for the incident in question is ridiculous. Read more…

Up the creek, without a paddle

June 10, 2011 1 comment

I know I did my much anticipated blog return only days ago, but the events of this week mean I felt obliged to do another. The blind faith that Cricket Australia has thrown upon this young brigade of cricketers is exactly that…blind. Read more…

The Final Word – How do we value entertainment?

As I promised a couple of weeks back, The Final Word makes a triumphant return in its full glory, and this time, I’m taking a look at what fans want. Do they really appreciate a winner, or they only after entertainment?? Or are they simply too greedy and want both?? Read more…
