Great team selection, Deans should have give young Robinson the starting spot against Samoa as a reward for his fine season, I am a great fan of Hodgson but this situation should have been handed to Robinson, he is the kind of player that thrives on the more challenges the better and against the Samoans it will be physical but we need to maintain sructure and not get drawn into a scrap, it has to be the Roman Turtle against the marauding Barbarians.
Applaud the selection of Gerard as fullback, he is not an outside centre and he should be retained as the number 2 fullback if Deans is going to stick with Beale as number one pick at 15.
Still confused about Vickerman taking up a spot that should be awarded to one of the locks that has toiled hard all year and we all know who that should be.
I agree Nigel, this is a good squad and will give an opportunity for players other then those from the Reds a chance to get some rust out of their system. As for Robinson, he has had a fine season this season, but you have to weigh up the fact that he has just played in the Super Rugby final, which was pretty intense. Deans will be wanting to manage these players carefully over the next couple of weeks, as he does not want them to be overdone come world cup time. That’s the logic behind the Springboks leaving their “injured” stars behind, there are bigger fish to fry this year. Gerard is good at the back, good to see him back in green and gold. Vickerman was a class player and deans is banking on the fact that he can get him up to speed before the world cup. Should be interesting though. Who did you have in mind to go in his place?
