Who's Playing Who?

Time for… MEGATIPS. This week, we welcome back the EPL from the summer break. It’s time for the wallets to be put away (until January, that is) and for the new signings for each side to get out onto the pitch and start earning those millions. Matt and Tomo were tied for first in EPL tipping last season, and they’re here to defend the title. The NRL continues, as does the AFL… we’re getting closer to the finals, and teams are starting to find themselves in must-win situations. Read on to find out who we’re backing this weekend!

Warriors v Knights

Matt says…”This is a massive battle for both sides, with a win possibly securing a finals spot, and a loss putting them under threat of falling out. The Warriors have been on a big roll recently, and even though they were defeated by the Broncos last week, they pushed them all the way and showed how much of a threat they can be to this premiership. In particular the form of Shaun Johnson at halfback has been massive in their current run, and if he and Maloney continue to fire they will win. The Knights have got back on track with some big wins at home, and Kurt Gidley has been very influential in those performances. They also have a very destructive right side, with Adam ‘Mad Dog’ MacDougall and Akuila Uate in tremendous form. Uate’s match-up with Manu Vatuvei is mouth-watering, and while it may not decide the game, it will be entertaining nonetheless. I’m going with the home side in a close one, and the rest of the WPW experts seem to agree with me!”

Brisbane Lions v Gold Coast Suns

The Phantom says…“The second QClash will give both of these sides something to play for, as they head towards September with no chance of playing finals footy. The Suns took out the first meeting of these clubs earlier in the year, but their young playing roster is, as expected, starting to tire. They’ve had a tough run the past few rounds, coming up against Collingwood, St Kilda and Geelong. The Lions will still be kicking themselves, blowing a handy 22-point lead in the fourth quarter against the Crows to lose by five. It should be an entertaining game between two sides desperate for a win, eager to steer well clear of the wooden spoon. The majority of our tipsters are predicting that the Lions will come out on top. “

Liverpool vs Sunderland

Adrian says… “Well, I was going to preview Spurs v Everton, but that’s since been called off, so we’re doing this one instead! Liverpool start their first full season with Kenny Dalglish as manager against Sunderland, with both sides being rather active during the transfer window. Sunderland have recruited no less than nine players, including Wes Brown and John O’Shea formally of Manchester United. Liverpool have bought four of their own, and are expecting big things from this talented group of players. Suarez looks set to sit this one out due to tiredness backing up from the Copa America tournament. It’ll be interesting to see how Charlie Adam fits into the Liverpool line up, and what impact he has with a higher calibre roster around him. Look for Andy Carroll to score here, as he’s now fit and raring to go, quite unlike when he joined the club under an injury cloud. Liverpool should get the job done, and it seems that the rest of the WPW tipsters agree with me.”
