Socceroos draw Japan in final round of qualification for 2014 World Cup
The Socceroos have drawn arguably the more difficult group for the final phase of qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
They will continue their rivalry with Japan, as well as clashing with Iraq, Jordan and Oman.
Here’s the full schedule:
June 8, 2012: Oman (away)
June 12, 2012: Japan (home)
September 11, 2012: Jordan (away)
October 16, 2012: Iraq (away)
March 26, 2013: Oman (home)
June 4, 2013: Japan (away)
June 11, 2013: Jordan (home)
June 18, 2013: Iraq (home)
In reality, qualification is still very achievable. As the highest ranked side in Asia, we are rightfully expected to go through.
The top two sides in each of the two groups qualify automatically, while the third ranked sides play-off for a play-off spot against CONMEBOL’s fifth ranked side (not nearly as confusing as it sounds).
What do you think of the group? Can we finish top? Who are our most dangerous opponents? Sound off in the comments below.
