England squad for Euro 2012

New England boss Roy Hodgson has announced the following 23 players to represent England in Poland an Ukraine in their search for European glory this Summer.

Goalkeepers – Joe Hart, Robert Green, John Ruddy.

Defenders – Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, John Terry.

Midfielders – Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young.

Strikers – Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.

Standby – Jack Butland, Phil Jagielka, Jordan Henderson, Adam Johnson, Daniel Sturridge.

Adrian Considers: Certainly interesting to see Rio Ferdinand has been omitted, with John Terry getting the nod. Hodgson has said it has nothing to do with the impending court case. Hmm. John Ruddy gets a call up as third choice keeper – Joe Hart is an absolute beast however, providing some much-needed stability at the back. Big Andy Carroll will be the focal point up front for the first two games while Rooney is out through suspension. Defoe will provide plenty of pace from the bench, as will Welbeck, in his first major tournament. Speaking of pace, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Ashley Young all feature. Gerrard and Lampard will again be relied on for their creativity in attack, and while they are heading towards the end of their respective careers, they still offer plenty. Scott Parker should have a big tournament.

What are your thoughts on the side? Who was unlucky to miss out? Who are you surprised to see make the cut?
