Spain Euro 2012 squad announced
Fernando Torres has capped off a great few months by earning a spot in Spain’s 23-man squad for Euro 2012.
The side will be missing both David Villa and Carles Puyol, who were unable to overcome injuries.
Cesc Fabregas has been named despite carrying a hamstring stain. Medical staff are confident he will be fit for the tournament.
Here’s the full squad:
Casillas (Real Madrid), Valdes (Barcelona), Reina (Liverpool); Alba (Valencia), Albiol, Arbeloa, Ramos (all Real Madrid), Juanfran (Atletico Madrid), Pique (Barcelona), Martinez (Athletic Bilbao); Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Busquets, Fabregas (all Barcelona), Alonso (Real Madrid), Silva (Manchester City), Cazorla (Malaga), Navas (Sevilla), Mata (Chelsea); Llorente (Athletic Bilbao), Torres (Chelsea), Negredo (Sevilla), Pedro (Barcelona).
Not bad, huh?
What do you think of the side? Were Soldado and Adrian Lopez unlucky to miss the cut? Leave you thoughts in the comments below.
Definitely liked to see Soldado on the squad but as a Chelsea fan, I am extremely happy to see Mata and Torres on the squad, especially with Torres’ recent form.
Agree re: Soldado. It just goes to show the Spanish squad isn’t the easiest to crack unfortunately!
As you’re a Chelsea fan, I guess you’d be pretty happy to see Hazard sign on?
Most definitely. Plus Hulk is set to sign on to Chelsea too. With Marko Marin, Hazard and Mata running with Torres, definitely Torres can finish all the balls he’s been given. That or Hazard and Hulk can score lots and lots of goals themselves.
If they land Hulk, wow. Perfect. I don’t think they need to go out and buy a straight replacement for Drogba – Torres fits there. Marin is an interesting one, I guess we’ll just wait and see how he performs. Even as a Man Utd fan, I’m excited to see what they pull together.
By the way, thanks for commenting Musha. Great to have someone like yourself on the site. We’ll have our Euro 2012 preview up next week, plus our podcast is back soon – we hope you can stick with us!
I will check in time by time. I think I’m also commenting on some sections of the Euro on my site so I’ll be looking at lots of blog to read.
Awesome, I’ll make sure I check your posts out as well.
