Adrian Considers
Welcome to Adrian Considers! I thought I’d try something new this week- instead of a big blog on one issue; I’m going to tackle a few different topics in shorter blocks. That’s not to say the bigger blogs are going to leave us, I think they might complement each other. At any rate, let’s see what happens.
14 Bunnies
The match between the Rabbitohs and Roosters last Friday night was a great way to begin the season. With an early lead to the Chooks, a vintage Souths comeback was seemingly on the cards, before one of the best young blood nuts going around in the form of Tom Symonds finished the game off for Easts. I thought the Rabbits put in a decent effort with the side reduced to 14 men, but there are some issues which need resolving there. While the result was disappointing for Souths fans, so was the fact that the club will be fined $15,000 for fielding an extra man for a few tackles. I don’t understand how this can happen when there are officials who are supposedly in charge of substitutes… It has to be simple. One guy comes off. The other runs on. Don’t have any mixed messages at all. This must not happen again, because as we saw with the Bulldogs a few years back, it can really come back to bite you (zing).
Panthers, Sharks- Nothing doing
Not a good start to the year for Penrith or Cronulla. Down in Canberra, the Sharks had a great opportunity to make a huge statement- no Campese, Orford or Dugan for the Raiders, and Tongue went off injured very early on in the game. They still got done. Not sure exactly what went wrong with Penrith… The Knights were pretty good. I don’t know whether the losing sides were really bad, or whether the victors were just far too good. I guess we’ll be able to tell in the coming weeks, but I’d suspect it was a bit of both.
Welcome Back!
Brett Stewart, Ben Ross and Chris Houston all made their return to first grade this weekend after some time away for various reasons. Was great to see them all making it through injury free, and I hope they all go on to have successful seasons.
Goooooaaaaaaallllllll!
Brisbane Roar won a fantastic A-League grand final. One for the ages. Listening to it on the wireless in the car, I was shocked at what transpired. It was Attack v Defence, and Attack won out (as it should). Credit to both sides- Roar were fantastic all season and thoroughly deserved to win. Central Coast defied all the critics, and went oh-so-close to taking the title on their third attempt. A fantastic advertisement for the local game, showing us all why more should get behind the A-League.
Arsenal… More important things to play for?
So, the Gunners lost the Carling Cup final to Birmingham. No worries, right? There’s other things to focus on. Like the Champions’ League… Where they lost out to Barcelona in controversial circumstances. OK, that’s fine, how about the FA Cup? 2-0 to Manchester United. Oops. Let’s just hope that there’s nothing else other than the Premier League that they have to focus on now… Otherwise, they could find themselves out of the Top 4. Speaking of United, looks like the Rooney saga is set to continue. The club are in a far better position now that they signed him up on a huge contract. They can command a massive transfer fee should he leave Old Trafford. Millions of £? The possibility of a new No. 1 striker at the club? I don’t know who you’d get, but to say that it would be a ridiculously big move would be an understatement.
