NRL Round 20/AFL Round 18 Megatips

It’s time for Megatips! The ‘Glory Bound’ rounds have begun in the NRL, as every team pushes to make the Top 8. Similarly in the AFL, places in the eight are up for grabs, and there are still plenty of clubs who could sneak in. Head on inside to see who we’re backing this weekend…

Match of the Round Previews

NRL

Storm v Broncos

Adrian says…”A match that rugby league fans everywhere will be wanting to see, as two heavyweights of the competition collide on Friday night in Melbourne. Interestingly, both of these sides are coached by men who have worked under Wayne Bennett, and Anthony Griffin even worked at the Storm as an Assistant Coach between 2001-2002. They are also both owned by News Ltd. That’s hardly relevant to the match, but I thought I’d throw that one in. Most of the Queensland team will be playing here, meaning that Smith, Slater and Cronk will know the Broncos players better than most, and vice versa. I’m picking that defence will be key- with so many dangerous players across the park, it could turn into a try-fest if both sides don’t aim up and defend their line. They will do so, and it will be one of the best matches of the season. All the big names are ready to play, so expect finals-like intensity in this one! No one is brave enough to tip the Broncos, but this shouldn’t be a one-sided contest.”

AFL

Sydney Swans v Western Bulldogs

The Phantom says…“A crucial clash for both sides, who are currently headed in different directions on the ladder. The Swans have slipped up after their strong start to the season, the Swans have lost four of their last five games. Their only win in that time came against the Suns. The Bulldogs on the other hand were on a bit of a roll before it all came grinding to a halt in last weekend’s Twilight fixture, going down by 31 points to North Melbourne. While a loss for the Swans would not be season ending, it wouldn’t help things, with Melbourne and St Kilda right on their tales, trying to sneak into the Top 8. On the other hand, the Bulldogs desperately need this win to stay in touch with the eight. A loss here, and it would be near impossible for them to play finals footy. The match also is Barry Hall’s farewell in Sydney, but his former club will want to be sending him away a loser. Our tipsters are backing the home side to do just that.”
